Travel demand management - Traffic and parking problems

Visitors and vehicle parking problems can be fixed in one of two ways  improve or reduce need.

Increasing supply requires developing new streets, increasing current streets, developing more vehicle parking areas, operating more transport services.  This can be expensive, time intensive, and in many instances undesirable to business, government authorities and the community.

The need for journey and vehicle parking can be affected by Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs.  Common TDM measures include rewards to use transport, ride-sharing, vehicle parking management, substitute work daily activities, bike and people upgrades, better treating current resources, and telecommuting.

Travel demand management can be seen as any action or set of activities targeted at impacting individuals' journey activities in such a way that substitute options are presented and/or over-crowding is reduced.
